O'BRIEN MIDDLE SCHOOL
Hot August Nights has adopted O'Brien Middle School in Reno as a school that has children in risk and in need.
Christmas Program
Each December we adopt close to 100 kids at the school for Christmas. For these kids whom the school determines are the most in need, we provide a hygiene bag filled with items such as soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, hair brushes, etc. We also ask our volunteers and the community to help us in providing a gift for each of the the students.
As we go through the year and are collecting items for the students, we will be listing on the right side of this web page our featured item that we are collecting for the students. If you would like to donate, we ask that you please provide new unused hygiene items in the size specified. Items can be dropped off or mailed to the Hot August Nights office (1425 E. Greg St., Sparks, NV - 89431).
ITEM OF THE MONTH:
Each month the Foundation Committee collects items needed for the O'Brien Christmas.
This month's items are:
Nail Clippers (83 needed for O'Brien Christmas Party hygiene bag) and Wash Clothes in neutral colors(82 needed before O'Brien Christmas Party hygiene bag).
If you would like to donate these items to the Foundation Committee, items can be dropped off at the Hot August Nights office 1425 E. Greg St., Sparks, NV 89431.
O'Brien Scarf Program
Along with our Christmas adoption, we work to provide every girl at O'Brien Middle School with a homemade scarf.
For all of you that knit so generously for our O’Brien Middle School girls throughout the year, we now have scarf requirements that we will need to adhere to for the sake of consistency. The school will no longer allow the students to have all red or blue scarves. Red and blue mixed with other colors, however is okay. Also the scarves need to be at least 4 1/2” wide and no shorter than 60” long (this length is without fringe).
We are starting at zero again and need to have more than 450 scarves by this November. So if you know how to knit or crochet, please pick up your needles and join us in making these girls a little warmer, inside and out. Don’t know how to knit? Well you can still help. Send us yarn and we will pass it on to out talented crafters. 1425 E. Greg Street, Sparks, NV 89431.
